On September 21, 2026, a time capsule laying ceremony was held in Astana to mark the start of construction of the new Coventry University Kazakhstan campus.
The new campus will become part of the capital’s modern educational infrastructure, combining British academic standards, international expertise, and opportunities to obtain an internationally recognised higher education in Kazakhstan. It is also expected to become one of the key facilities within Astana’s modern educational infrastructure.
The ceremony was attended by Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Talgat Rakhmanberdi, Deputy Akim of Astana; Alibek Bakayev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; Sally Axworthy MBE, His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan; Lord John Alderdice, Member of the House of Lords and UK Trade Envoy to Azerbaijan and Central Asia; as well as representatives of the leadership of Coventry University and Coventry University Kazakhstan.
The project, implemented with the support of the Akimat of the city of Astana, will expand access for Kazakhstani students to international educational programmes and contribute to strengthening academic cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom.
The opening of the new campus will also contribute to the development of the capital’s educational infrastructure and further strengthen Astana’s position as a regional hub for international education.
